There’s a long-standing tradition of custom bikes at the Tour de France and at this year’s race we’ve already seen Fabian Cancellara’s yellow Trek Domane and Peter Sagan’s Tourminator-themed Cannondale SuperSix Evo.
Cancellara, who won the opening prologue in Liege, relinquished the race lead on stage seven (and the Radioshack-Nissan-Trek rider has since withdrawn from the race), with Team Sky’s Bradley Wiggins moving into the yellow jersey.
And Wiggins has since been handed a custom Pinarello Dogma 2 to match his maillot jaune and yellow Kask helmet and Oakley sunglasses.
It’s not quite as brash as Cancellara’s all-yellow Domane, with the Team Sky rider instead getting yellow bar tape/hoods, a yellow fi’zi:k saddle and splashes of yellow on the frame itself, on the bottom of the headtube, the underside of the downtube, and along the top of the toptube.
Thomas Voeckler’s Colnago C59 Italia also got an overhaul ahead of stage 11. The popular Frenchman won stage ten from a breakaway and took over the lead in the King of the Mountains classification as a result. Voeckler’s machine received white hoods, as well as polka dots on the fork, top tube, the top of the seatpost and the rear of the seat tube.
Voeckler is back on his regular C59 Team Edition for stage 12, however, as the two-time yellow jersey holder missed the large breakaway on stage 11, allowing Astana’s Fredrik Kessiakoff to move into the polka dot jersey. Team Europcar enjoyed another superb day however, with Voeckler’s team-mate Pierre Rolland winning the stage (you can see Rolland’s Colnago M10 S here).
