Cannondale’s Slice Carbon Ultegra SL is designed for speed through the air. At its centre is a high-modulus uni-directional carbon frame with large bladed sections to reduce drag, and size specific head and top tubes are used to further optimise aerodynamics. Cables are routed internally through the top tube, and S.A.V.E. seat and chain stays provide some degree of bump absorption.
The seat tube hugs the profile of the rear wheel while the spear shaped top tube is as narrow as Cannondale dare go. The downtube is just 30mm wide and 79m tall, just a millimetre short of the UCI’s 80mm limit.
Cannondale’s BB30 bottom bracket standard is gaining a lot of traction in the bicycle world, and the Slice frame presents RCUK’s first opportunity to try it out. BB30 early adopters FSA supply an SL-K Light chainset with 53/39 rings
A multi-position seatpost allows for UCI-legal 73 degree and triathlon-friendly 78 degree settings. The bike pictured, which RCUK will be testing in the coming weeks, is the middle of a three-bike range and is built with a mix of Shimano Ultegra/Ultegra SL components, an FSA SL-K Light BB30 53/39 chainset, Profile Airwing bars and Cannondale C1 carbon brake levers. Wheels are Mavic Ksyrium Elite with Vittoria Rubino Pro 23mm tyres.
Five sizes are available 51, 54, 56, 58, 60cm. The size pictured is a 54cm.
