Rapha ProTeam Softshell Base Layer (Team Sky)
Rapha ProTeam Softshell Base Layer (Team Sky)
Okay, so it’s not strictly a jersey, but Rapha’s new ProTeam line-up contains a base layer designed to negate the need for a Gabba-style top layer.
It’s designed to be highly water repellant, with a high collar and three-quarter length sleeves, while still allowing the rider to wear their usualrace jersey over the top. Which from Rapha’s point of view means their Team Sky jerseys (should the base layer be called into action) won’t be covered up by an all-black layer. Smart.
The base layer is made from two fabrics. A three-ply membrane on the front and rear, and a lighter fabric under the arms. The aim is to retain comfort next to the skin while keeping the layer stretchy. On top of that, all seams are flatlock for an extra bit of comfort. It’s another intriguing piece of kit from Rapha and unique to the cycling market. Given that the ProTeam Softshell base layer was only launched last month, we’re keen to see if it sees any action with Team Sky riders through the Classics.
