Schwalbe add Pro One, S-One and G-One tyres
As we’ve alluded to, wide rims are best paired with wide tyres, and that’s something tyre manufacturers have quickly jumped on board with.
Three new tyres from Schwalbe caught our eye at the Cycle Show: the Pro One Tubeless, S-One and G-One.
The Schwalbe Pro One Tubeless is the new flagship version of the One clincher, claimed to be 70g lighter and with 15 per cent lower rolling resistance. Schwalbe say those improvements have come about thanks to the use a patented ‘MicroSkin’ construction.
Otherwise, the Pro One Tubeless, which also has a triple compound construction to balance grip, speed and durability, is available in three widths, with the 23mm, 25mm and 28mm versions weighing a claimed 235g, 255g and 275g respectively. By the time you remove the weight of an inner tube and run these tubeless then you’re looking at a very light tyre indeed.
Next up, the Schwalbe S-One is a 30mm tyre designed specifically for rough roads and races like Paris-Roubaix, where you’ll often see pro teams running 30mm tyres in a bid to improve comfort and reduce the likelihood of puncturing over the harsh cobbles. Schwalbe say the S in the name means this is a Special for Roubaix and Tour of Flanders-style events.
The big volume and V-Guard layer combine to provide puncture protection, while the tyre uses the same OneStar triple compound construction as the Pro One Tubeless, though the file tread is one obvious difference between the two bar size.
The S-One is available as a tubeless clincher or handmade tubular, with claimed weights of 330g and 360g respectively.
Finally from Schwalbe, the G-One is another tubeless tyre, but this time designed for the burgeoning gravel scene. It’s available in 35mm and 40mm widths (claimed weight 400g and 460g respectively), as well as a 40mm width (420g) for 650b wheels, making it a good fit for the new Cannondale Slate gravel bike (which we’ll come on to…). UK prices for the Pro One, S-One and G-One are all TBC.
