Gone are the days of nipping behind the bike sheds for a fag… these spaceship-esque modules are designed by James Steward of Built From Scratch Design Ltd. who has clearly given the idea a great deal of thought. Cyclists no longer need worry about leaving their bikes locked to unsafe public bike racks. Local authorities, architects, schools and large companies now have the choice of Cyclepods; An innovative modern vertical cycle storage unit that stores 8 bikes within a 2 meter diameter.
The bikes are stored vertically on their rear wheel around a central axis, this method maximises space and also helps give the design its modern contemporary form. We say it looks suitably sculptural and far nicer than the traditional bike shed or store. You might even want to put one in the garden, we could certainly use one in the office!
Not only is this design great for local authorities regenerating towns and cities, but cyclists now no longer need to be put off cycling by lack of secure storage for their bikes thanks to the revolutionary design. Unlike other cycle storage units, Cyclepods enables the cyclist to lock both the bike frame and the wheel to the unit fastening the most expensive and most highly targeted part of the bike securely in place.
Another key feature of Cyclepods is that the design optimises space. Other cycle storage units out there at the moment usually require double the space that Cyclepods does.

A roof cover over the Cyclepod means that not only is the product a form of cycle parking, but also acts as a bike shelter offering protection from the weather as well as providing a real visual focal point and advertising space.
Nottingham County Council have just ordered two Cyclepod units to be used in the public domain after being impressed with the design quoting:
“James’ idea for cycle parking is very different to anything we have previously seen or used, consequently it’s captured the imagination”
Nottinghamshire Council needed a new system to store bikes due to the growth of cyclists. This being the case throughout a lot of the UK, James is hoping Cyclepods will provide a workable solution for every town with a bicycle storage problem also encouraging more people to cycle.
