The latest titanium frameset to emerge blinking from Enigma’s Sussex premises into the early spring sunshine is, for now, known as the “6/4”, basically because it is entirely made using 6Al4V titanium alloy.
The exceptionally high strength of Grade 5 titanium alloy, which contains 6% aluminium and 4% vanadium with 90% titanium, makes it harder to work but allows the use of thinner, lighter tube walls than with the more usual 3Al2.5V alloy.
Currently made in Taiwan, Enigma’s 6/4 is constructed using 100% seamless, double-butted tubing, has a four-point seatpost clamp design and is offered in stock sizes S, M, L and XL or to order. Price for the stock frame, minus fork, in standard brushed finish is £1899, with custom finishes also available.
