The self confessed problem Cannondale has with updating the Supersix was the obvious one: how do you take a bike that good and make it better? Well, not easily, that’s for sure but according to what they’re saying, they’ve managed to make improvements in more than a few areas. It’s evolution rather than revolution, but a smart evolution nonetheless.

The team edition features Hi-Mod Ballistec carbon fibre, Cannondale’s proprietary construction method which allows them to achieve the blend of strength and light weight that you get with the Supersix all built around the all-new BB30a 73mm bottom bracket.

But not only wanting something super stiff, they’ve also taken elements from the Synapse – like the 25.4mm save seatpost – and looked at improving comfort, too. With that seatpost combined with the mirco-suspension elements in the chain and seat stays, Cannondale claim that the new Evo is 20 percent more comfortable that its predecessor. On top of that, it now has clearance for 28mm tyres, so you can pack even more comfort into the mix.

The fork is a really clever bit of kit, too. Made from continuous, uncut carbon all the way from the dropouts to the top of the steerer tube, it means there’s no bonding between steerer tube and fork legs, giving a claimed increase in stiffness of over 6 percent.

Cannondale have also worked hard to drop weight. Altogether, system weight (frame, fork, headset and seatpost) is a claimed 70g lighter than the previous edition which is pretty impressive given that you could already comfortably build the last one to sub-6kg.

Altogether there are 8 models for the 2016 Supersix, starting with the Hi-Mod Team at £7,499.99 all the way down to the Supersix Evo Tiagra 6 at £1,299.99. There are also two women’s editions, a Supersix Ultegra 3 for £1,899.99 and a 105 5 for £1,499.99.
