Madison clothing
On to Madison clothing and there are a number of new pieces which caught our eye, starting with the top-end Road Race Light collection.
The range, which includes the short sleeve jersey pictured above, as well as a long sleeve jersey, bib shorts and mitts, benefits from the relationship with the Madison-Genesis team managed by Roger Hammond.
With such a close connection to the UCI Continental-registered team, the clothing is designed with performance in mind, with a closer, aerodynamic fit and lightweight, technical fabrics to keep the rider cool in the heat of a race. The short sleeve jersey, as an example, has bonded seams and a wide silicone-lined cuff on the arm. The shorts are expected to cost approximately £90 and the jerseys around £65-75 when they hit the shops in May.
Moving on, and while spring may be yet to arrive, Madison are already looking ahead to autumn/winter 2015/16 and have been busy working on the Optimus jersey.
There’s been a big trend in recent years for water resistant clothing which offers protection from the elements, without sacrificing too much in the way of breathability and fit, and the Optimus is inspired by the ubiquitous Castelli Gabba.
The Optimus, which has also been in the hands of the Madison-Genesis team for testing and feedback, is made from and windproof and water resistant fabric, and has a generous dropped tail to protect from rear wheel spray. It will cost around £90 so, on the fact of it, looks excellent value when it becomes available in autumn 2015
