Think of esteemed titanium frame builders and Moots is often one of the first names to roll off the lips. That’s because the American company has been building frames since 1981, and was one of the first company’s to really begin working with the once exotic material, in the process carving themselves a niche as producers of extremely desirable framesets.
The Vamoots Compact is built from 3/2.5 straight gauge titanium with a sloping geometry, a shorter seat tube and a greater sloping top tube than the standard Vamoots (itself built around a classic geometry), resulting in a slightly lighter frameset. You can choose from eight sizes, from 50 to 61.5cm. Moots offer a custom sizing option (an extra £250), should you want to tailor the frame in any direction. A whole load of other options are available too.
The quality of the workmanship demonstrated in this frame is without hesitation among the best you’ll find anywhere. Welds are beautifully smooth – you’ll struggle to find better welds than this. Weight is a claimed 2.9lbs for a 55cm size. Or plump for the SL and the weight drops to 2.6lbs.
This bike is finished in a suitably high-level spec. Shimano Dura-Ace components, Mavic Kysrium ES wheels, Moots ti stem and seatpost. If you need to ask the price…
