Prendas Ciclismo Meraklon Oversocks £7.50 or 2 pairs for £12
When Richard reviewed the Prendas Meraklon armwarmers last week, he mentioned that they’re a vital bit of clothing. While this is true, and indeed is backed up by the number of cyclists who won’t leave the house without them, the same can’t be said about oversocks.
And that, in my view, is madness. With modern shoes being as lightweight and highly ventilated as they are, cold toes can often be a problem, especially at this time of year. And cold toes are an easy way to ruin a ride aren’t they.
These oversocks then are made from Meraklon, a material which is both lightweight and has thermal properties. Slipping them on is easy, with a hole that fits around the cleat and a small hole at the heel to hook them in place. We didn’t experience them slipping down or interfering with the cleats/pedals, and we’ve not suffered from cold toes since using them – which is nice.
They’re £7.50 a pair, available in four colours (including black and white if the red is a little bright for your tastes…) and come in plenty of sizes.
Verdict
Warm toes make for comfortable cycling, and these oversocks do an excellent job of keeping them warm
Warm toes, light, fit well, good price
Red is a bit bright (but other colours are available, about two inches too long for aesthetic perfection
