The 2015 Tour de France is shaping up to be a mouth-watering prospect, with cycling’s four pre-eminent riders – Alberto Contador, Chris Froome, Vincenzo Nibali and Nairo Quintana – all set to face off for the first time in a Grand Tour. This is the bike on which Contador will enter battle.
The Spaniard made his first appearance since winning the Giro d’Italia at the Route du Sud, and fired a warning shot to his rivals by winning the four-stage race.
The main battle is to come, of course, and how well Contador has recovered from the Giro will only become evident at the Tour de France progresses, but he made the point of attacking on the final descent of stage three to distance Quintana and setup victory.
We were there at the start of the final stage to take a closer look at El Pistolero’s bike – a Specialized Tarmac in custom colours to celebrate Contador’s victories in all three Grand Tours. Will he add another to his palmares come the end of July?
