Pro bike: Jakob Fuglsang’s Specialized S-Works Tarmac SL4

Campagnolo Super Record EPS-equipped machine of Jakob Fuglsang

Astana are, along with Omega Pharma-QuickStep, one of two teams sponsored by Specialized and this machine belongs to Jakob Fuglsang.

The Dane moved to the Kazakhstan-based team at the start of the 2013 season after clashing with former boss Johan Bruyneel at Radioshack-Nissan-Trek during a 2012 campaign which saw Fuglsang left out of all three Grand Tours.

The 29-year-old underlined his talent in three-week stage races by finishing seventh overall at the 2013 Tour de France with Astana, having already finished fourth at the Criterium du Dauphine. A promising start to 2014 saw Fuglsang finish fifth at Paris-Nice.

The S-Works Tarmac SL4 is the lightest frame in Specialized’s range and so the obvious choice for a rider of Fuglsang’s climbing calibre. The aero Venge, meanwhile, is the preserve of sprinters like Omega Pharma-QuickStep’s Mark Cavendish.

Astana are one of five WorldTour teams supplied by Campagnolo, along with Ag2r La Mondiale, Europcar, Lotto-Belisol and Movistar, and Fuglsang’s bike is equipped with the Italian firm’s flagship Super Record EPS groupset. The wheels come from French brand Corima, while Veloflex provide the tyres and FSA the cockpit components.
