RaceFace, a name better known to anyone who dabbles in the knobbly tyred discipline of MTBing, has, in the last couple of years, bridged the gap into the road world. Their range of road components brings a unique design direction to 15 years of experience.
With a box of bits arriving in the RCUK office, this is the first time we’ve actually got to have a closer look and test the components. There’s currently two ranges for different price points: the top-of-the-range Revolution and the more affordable Cadence.
The Cadence name extends to handlebars, stems, seat posts and cranks. The cranks are forged from 6066 aluminium with the company’s signature I-Beam profiling, with an ‘X-Type’ external bottom bracket system. Weight for standard (53/39) comes to a claimed 860g (for comparison purposes Shimano’s Ultegra SL cranks weigh 839g) while the compact weighs 820g. They’re available in four lengths: 170, 172.5 and 175mm, and cost £150, which includes the rings and bottom bracket.
The £29.95 Cadence handlebars are made from 7075 butted aluminium and feature an ergonomic shape, with grooves for the gear and brake cables. Sizes range from 38 to 44cm, all with a 31.8mm clamp size.
The matching stem is forged from 6061 aluminium with an interlocking U-shaped faceplate designed to eliminate stress risers. Sizes range from 90 to 130mm and all feature the same 8 º rise.
Finally, the Cadence seat post borrows the same unique head system from the MTB versions. The head allows easy and separate adjustment of the fore/aft and tilt of the saddle. The head components are forged and CNC’ed from 6061 aluminium, while the anodised and shot peened post is 3D forged from 2014 aluminium.
