Italian saddle specialist San Marco has come up with a novel approach to the business of sponsoring professional racing teams. For the 2009 season, riders on any team sponsored by San Marco will be expected to use one of the four San Marco designs that make up the Racing Team range rather than being able to choose any saddle in the manufacturer’s range. This apparently is intended to make it easier for fans to emulate their heroes…
The designs chosen are all race-proven, with the Concor Light the choice of Lance Armstrong throughout his career and the Regal a perennial pro favourite that can count such luminaries of the peloton as Robbie McEwen and Tom Boonen amongst its admirers. The Aspide and Zoncolan will satisfy pros wanting a superlight or state-of-the-art saddle respectively.
Although each model will be offered in either black with white lettering or white with black lettering, only the latter will be distributed in the UK. With the exception of the Concor Light, which features rails in ‘Titanox’, Racing Team saddles have titanium rails for lightness and a synthetic covering for durability.
Prices for the saddles, which will be on sale from mid-October, are likely to be:
