Described as an Off-Road Sport shoe, Shimano’s M077 model sits smack in the middle of the Japanese manufacturer’s mtb range and makes a fine all-round road shoe where off-bike wearability is important.
Which means walking, but not necessarily too much of it; even with the extensively treaded, robust rubber sole provided, these shoes are a little too stiff under foot to be comfortable for longer hikes. Indeed, the fibreglass-reinforced polyamide midsole plate is stiff enough for moderate road competition use even if the weight of the rubber sole mitigates against it. But for commuting, touring and general convenience, they hit the spot.
Features include triple “hook and loop” (or Velcro-type) strap closure, stretch-resistant synthetic leather panels supporting the mesh of the upper, a roomy toe box and clean, unobtrusive styling in a silvery grey in place of the predominantly black finish of predecessors such as the M076.
