With a breathable, windproof front and shoulders matched to a mesh rear, Shutt Velo Rapide’s Race Lite gilet fits the description to a tee. In doing so, it does exactly what a gilet should do, which is protect the trunk and shoulders from the cold while ensuring adequate ventilation.
So far, so good. Add pleasing colours, a generous collar, Lycra detailing, reflective beading and zippers offering access to underlying jersey pockets either side of the rear mesh panel and it is hard to see where else the gilet could go. Hang on; it has Shutt VR’s neat rainbow band decoration.
In short, this is a fine example of the no-frills gilet but with a few frills of just the right sort. Nice.
