Silva launch three-strong light range

There’s a new name in the bike light market, with Silva, a Swedish company best known for its compasses and head torches, launching a three-strong range in the UK.

The Silva Velo is aimed at commuters

Of most interest to road cyclists will be the Velo, which, with an output of 110 Lumens, has its feet firmly in commuter territory, accompanied by a £49.99 price tag.

The waterproof unit has six modes, including two red settings which mean it can also be used as a rear light. The light is powered by three AAA batteries, with a claimed run time of 30 hours on the maximum setting and 90 hours on the weakest.

Meanwhile, the Simi is an entry-level safety light which can be attached to your seatpost or handlebar using the silicon mount common on lights of this mould. Again, it’s battery powered, with a 24-hour run time on the constant setting and 100 hours on blink mode. Available in four colours, the Simi has a retail price of £9.99.

Finally, the £299 Singletrack is, as the name would suggest, aimed at mountain bikers thanks to its 1,030-Lumen output. The Singletrack’s Intelligent Light System is said to create a triangle of light which is wider at the bottom, helping you to see more, while minimising the amount of light bounced off of higher objects.
