FSA K-Force Light (£469.99)
FSA K-Force Light (£469.99)
One of the lighter ‘mass market’ cranksets around, FSA’s K-Force light comes in at 590g for a compact (50/34t). Compare that to Shimano’s Dura-Ace at 683g for a 53/39 or even Campagnolo’s Super Record at 603g and you can make a definite weight saving should you so wish.
Speaking of Campag, FSA offer the K-Force cranks with 11-speed Campagnolo rings as well as the typical SRAM/Shimano offerings (although, as an aside, I’ve run SRAM Red chainrings with a Campagnolo front derailleur and chain and shifting has been superb. With 11-speed, setup is still very important, but compatibility is far more universal).
It also comes in four different options as far as chainrings are concerned: the classic 53/39, pro compact 52/36, full compact 50/34 or a 46/36 cyclocross option. To match those ratios, you get three choices of crank length: 170mm, 172.5mm and 175mm, so if you’re after especially short or long cranks you may want to look elsewhere.
The trade-off, of course, is price. Pro level bits of kit tend to come with equally top flight price tags, and the RRP on one of these is a hefty £469.99. For that price you’ll need to be seriously committed to saving a few grams.
