Miche Supertype HSL (£499.99)
Miche Supertype HSL (£499.99)
If you’re after something a bit different, or love some of that exotic Italian flavour, then Miche’s Supertype crankset might be the one for you. It’s another four-bolt design like Shimano and Campagnolo’s latest, meaning chainring compatibility shouldn’t be an issue.
The HSL in the name stands for High Stiffness Link, Miche’s gear attachments sytem, which offers six points of attachment, thus increasing rigidity and therefore, say Miche, shifting quality. It’s not super light, weighing in at a claimed 694g for a compact, but if the rigidity claims are correct, it should offer high quality shifting which is a good trade-off.
It comes with Miche’s own 7075-T6 aluminium chainrings finished with Hart Treatement (HT) to make them as wear-resistant as possible. In terms of options, the Supertype comes in 170-175mm, with chainring options of 34, 36, 38, 39/50, 52 or 53t.
If you don’t fancy dropping £400 but still want something a bit different, Miche also do the £142 Primato SSC crankset, a 750g alloy offering that’ll still add a little Italian flair to your ride.
