Suplest cycling shoes – first look

Swiss shoes land at RoadCyclingUK

Suplest is a Swiss brand, founded in 2007, with a ten-strong collection of road shoes. Key a close eye on the pro peloton and you’ll see Suplest shoes on the feet of BMC Racing’s Swiss national champion, Michael Schär.

This marks Suplest’s debut on RoadCyclingUK and so we’ve received five pairs of shoes, from the £140 Street Racing Nylon Velcro to the £285 Street Racing S8+, to introduce the range to you, and we’ll be testing the flagship Street Racing S8+ over the weeks ahead. Suplest’s range of road shoes fall under the ‘Street Racing’ moniker, with cross-country mountain bike and off-road collections also available.

First some background on Suplest. The firm was founded in Berne, Switzerland, by two cyclists and foot specialists who believe they have a unique take on the major requirements of a high-end cycling shoe. You won’t find any heat-mouldable shoes in Suplest’s range as they believe that the foot regularly changes shape so what may be comfortable on one ride, may not feel the same on another. Instead, Suplest use an ergonomically-shaped EVA insole dubbed ‘Ergo 360’.

Of the ten Street Racing shoes, five have a carbon fibre sole, and five have a nylon sole. All except the S8+ use Suplest’s ‘Organic Grid’ two-piece micro-fibre upper construction, which uses a material of a varying thickness around the foot, and Suplest say that allows them to select areas which need more reinforcement to keep the foot stable, and other areas where a thinner material is used to increase comfort. The result, they say, is a strong and resistant yet supple material.

That’s enough of the tech talk, let’s take a closer look at the Suplest shoes we’ve received at RoadCyclingUK HQ.
