Tuesday 12th September saw the second day of the 2006 UCI World Masters Track Championships at the Manchester Velodrome. These are the official championships for riders over 30 years of age. Today saw the 2006 World Masters titles awarded in the Men’s Sprint and Women’s Individual Time Trials events.

There were an amazing seven new World Masters Best Times set during today’s competition – the previous record was broken (subject to ratification) in each of the five men’s Sprint events.

Great Britain won three of the eight titles on offer with winning performances from Janet Birkmyre (Women’s 40-49 Individual Time Trial), Joanne Fenwick (Women’s 50+ Individual Time Trial) and Geoff Cooke (Men’s 60-64 Sprint). Janet and Geoff both set new World Masters Best Times for their events during the competition.

At the end of the second day the top of the medal table is as follows:

  • 1st: Great Britain (7 Gold, 3 Silver and 9 Bronze),
  • 2nd: USA (6 Gold, 7 Silver and 3 Bronze),
  • 3rd: Australia (2 Gold, 4 Silver and 3 Bronze).
