ViewRanger and cycleroutes.com have joined forces to allow cycling routes to be downloaded directly to smart phones via the ViewRanger app.
The deal means that in addition to accessing routes via the cycleroutes.com website, people with ViewRanger on their smart phone can also purchase and download routes direct. Once stored the map, route and content is held on the phone so it works even without mobile coverage.
Available on iPhone, Android and Symbian phones, ViewRanger allows cyclists to view their location and routes on either OpenCycleMap as standard, or upgrade to Ordnance Survey mapping (1:50,000 Landranger or 1:25,000 Explorer).
Users can take advantage of a huge range of routes from sources including Traffic-Free Cycle Trails from CycleCity Guides, the Cycle Tours series from Cordee, the popular Coast-to-Coast in Northern England from Excellent Books plus scores of rides from Nick Cotton, author of more than 40 cycling guides across the country.
“We know that people with smart phones want to download directly to their phones and they can now do that through the excellent ViewRanger App,” said CycleCity Guides director Martin Whitfield.
ViewRanger CEO Craig Wareham added: “We are delighted that cycleroutes.com has partnered with us as their mobile publishing platform. While ViewRanger’s core user community has been with walkers, we are seeing an increasing following amongst cyclists – both on and off-road, so the ability to download GPS enabled routes, navigation and content from such an exciting range of trusted authors will be of real benefit to our customers.”
