Vulpine have unveiled an expanded merino range, which includes the all-new Merino Alpine Jersey – the firm’s most performance-inspired piece to date.
Vulpine launched in early 2012 and have quickly carved a niche for stylish casual cycle wear with an impressive level of attention to detail.
The Merino Alpine Jersey, however, marks a new direction for Vulpine, and is designed, according to founder Nick Hussey, “for riding up beautiful cols in the searing heat and screaming down past the snow line – or just a nice cakey jaunt to Box Hill.”
The jersey, which will retail for £80, is made from the same 180g Tasmanian merino wool that’s used across the Vulpine range. “Merino is the ultimate temperature-regulating fabric, ideal for wicking away sweat (and therefore heat) on sweltering days, but it can also take the chill off you as you hammer down the Galibier,” added Hussey.
The jersey has a full-length zip, while the fit is described as “slightly more than a pure racing jersey”. Details include a contrast zip with non-slip leather pull, two open rear pockets and a central zipped pocket for valuables. The two main pockets are closed with V-stitched and engraved buttons – a nod, say Vulpine, to classic wool jerseys of the 1950s and and to provide extra security.
Otherwise, Vulpine’s Merino T-Shirt (£55) is now available as a v-neck, as well as the existing crew neck. Again, the t-shirt is made from 180g Tasmanian merino wool and has a slim but not body-hugging fit. Cycling-specific touches include a cut which is a little longer at the back than the front, as well as subtle reflective detailing and a rear button pocket.
The Merino Button Jersey (£80) has been updated following customer feedback and is now cut shorter at the waist, with silicon grip tape at the rear only, a larger valuables zip pocket and a tweaked shape.
The Merino Alpine Jersey, T-Shirt, V-Neck and Button Jersey are all available in four colours: claret, fern green, astral blue and grey. All are on sale now through the Vulpine website.
Looking ahead to July and Vulpine have plans for an updated Original Rain Jacket and Harrington Rain Jacket (reviewed here), as well as a new set of cotton trousers and cotton shorts.
Meanwhile, Vulpine have also significantly expanded their women’s range to include the Merino T-Shirt (£55), V-Neck (£55) and Alpine Jersey (£80), all available in three colours (claret, fern green and grey). All have a female-specific fit, cut wider at the hips, cut in at the waist and shorter on the body.
