If the bike fits...
Bike fitting is booming, with the rising popularity of cycling seeing more and more riders turn to the experts to enhance comfort, boost performance and avoid injury.
And as experts go, few come more qualified than Phil Burt, lead physiotherapist for British Cycling and a consultant physio for Team Sky.
When Sir Dave Brailsford and co search for marginal gains, Burt is among those they consult, and the rest of us can now also benefit from Burt’s expertise thanks to his book, Bike Fit, which was published in the summer.
With ringing endorsements from the likes of Sir Chris Hoy, Ben Swift and Geraint Thomas, Burt certainly holds a significant place role at British Cycling – even if his contribution may go unnoticed to the outside world.
From Sir Bradley Wiggins’ evolution from track star to Tour de France champion, to a return to form which saw Swift bounce back from an injury-hit 2013 to claim third at Milan-San Remo this year, Burt has helped contribute to the success of some of the UK’s biggest stars.
And, ahead of his appearance at the London Sports Writing Festival at Lord’s Cricket Ground on Sunday October 26, we caught up with Burt to find out some of his bike-fitting tips.
Looking to boost your performance without the expense of new equipment? Read on for Burt’s advice and look out for our feature-length interview soon.
