Cotswold Spring Classic route revised

Two routes for Cotswold Spring Classic

Following on from a very successful first year in 2009, the Cotswold Spring Classic is back, keeping its date of Easter Monday which this year falls on 5th April. The event keeps the same basic format as in 2009. However, the route has been ‘tweaked’ to remove some poor sections of road which still haven’t been repaired after the ravages of this winter and some new climbs have been added to keep everyone on their toes.

Due to the harsh wintery conditions experienced earlier this year, the roads for the second annual Cotswold Spring Classic have been badly affected. Organisers of the event say “We pride ourselves on using minor roads for the Cotswold experience. However, many of these roads are in such poor condition that riding on them could be dangerous”.

The last two weeks have been spent travelling hundreds of miles finding the best country roads for the new short (100km) and long (160km / 100mile) routes. The organisers stated that the “Cotswold experience” element of the ride has been maintained. They went on to explain; “We have had to drop many of last years climbs and descents due to the conditions of the roads, but have managed to devise a challenging 160km route and very enjoyable 100km ride by adding in new sections and different climbs that we didn’t use last year”.

As per 2009, the event will offer riders the choice of a 100km route or a 100 mile (160km) route through some of the best countryside the Cotswolds has to offer. Entrants won’t need to decide on the route they’re taking until they get to the split point on the day. Each route will be comprehensively signed, with well stocked feed stations out on the route (one for the 100km route and two for the 160km route) and motorcycle outrider support from the National Escort Group and NEG MediBikes. Mechanical support will be provided on the day by Performance Cycles at the start, each feed station and also in a support car out on the road.
