CX Sportive events return on November 20 with the multi-bike, multi-terrain Salisbury Saxon CX.
Featuring 80, 60 & 40km routes, criss-crossing the valleys and drove roads south of Salisbury Plain, the event is open to cyclo-cross, MTB, road and hybrid machines – anything you can make suitable for a fast mix of road and rough stuff.
CX Sportive courses are designed to cover a variety of terrains, typically 60 per cent on road, 25 per cent on fast tracks (fire road/farm track), 10 per cent bridleways and five per cent singletrack.
The river Ebble traces the floor of the valley that forms the backbone of a course which winds constantly up and down the the hills to the north and south.
Ancient drove roads atop each of these downs, along with the narrow valley road, form the main arteries of the route, while the lanes, tracks and trails between add the colour.
Testing climbs that top out at 20 per cent are followed by super-fast descents, through a procession of picture box villages.
The ride will feature comprehensive route marking, feed and support stations and electronic rider timing, plus hot and cold food, drinks and snacks, and free SIS energy drink.
Entry costs £14, £16 or £17, depending on what route distance you choose. Secure you place online at www.cxsportive.com.
