Boardman Carbon Cage £29.99

This isn’t just a bottle cage. It’s a Chris Boardman carbon fibre bottle cage, and joins the growing number attempting to make traditional alloy choices redundant. There are a lot to choose from, but as RCUK found with the Boardman Carbon Cage, they’re not quite all the same.

The Boardman Carbon bottle cage is made from carbon fibre, weighs just 28g and comes with titanium bolts, for a further weight reduction.The keyhole design of the cage mounting slots obviates the need to completely remove and rethread the bolts, which makes it easier to fit.

It’s how well the cage holds a bottle that sets it apart though. The ‘wings’ of the cage offer a nice easy entry for inserting bottles, and once in place they’re held firmly in place – I found it to be one of the easier bottle cages to use during a race as it doesn’t cling onto the bottles too tightly for easy insertion and removal.
