Cooke misses her chance in the Road Race

Nicole sprints for Bronze

Considering that four months ago Nicole Cooke was injured and looking unlikely to even start this race, she did everything she could to get on the podium. Her reaction afterwards was hardly ‘never mind I did my best…’ read more on her
website.

Rachel Heal and Sara Symington of the British team did all they could early on in the race but as time went on, and with two riders from Australia in the final move, Cooke became isolated and had no chance of getting away. She seems very disappointed and saw the road race as her only realistic chance of Gold. She may be right, but expect her to try everything again in the mid-week time trial. She certainly looked strong yesterday bridging gaps when she had to.

Judith Arndt was flying yesterday and is our tip for Gold in the Time Trial on Wednesday. Cooke and Arndt both showed their frustration in the Australian’s tactics, but you can’t take it away from Carrigan and her team, they rode a very clever race.
