Date: 19th September 2004
Start: Glasgow – George Square
Finish: Edinburgh – Meadowbank Stadium
Pedal for Scotland – Scotland’s largest mass participation bike ride – has the Scottish national squad turning out, so if you are there too, you could receive their encouragement and advice.
There will also be a few special prizes awarded, with all entrants going into a prize draw. Prizes include a Cycling Scotland racing jersey signed by Olympic Gold medallist Chris Hoy, and a £150 voucher for TheBicycleWorks.com in Edinburgh (to be used in either their Cycle Repair Centre or their Triathlon Centre).
Starting in George Square the ride leaves Glasgow and proceeds along gentle roads in the heart of the Scottish countryside, taking in such wonders as the Linlithgow Palace, before it reaches the amazing city of Edinburgh, where you will cycle into Medaowbank Stadium. And because it’s only a race if you want it to be, you get the chance to leisurely take in all the sights and sounds of this beautiful part of the world, out in the open and at your own pace.
There are reststops along the way and mechanical back-up in case of difficulties. Add to this a carefully marshalled and signposted route, free snacks, entertainment and hopefully some other well-known personalities also accepting the challenge alongside you.
For the more hardcore cyclist the course is long enough to be a challenge and short enough that you can bring your friends to test them out.
Whatever it is that works for you, Pedal for Scotland really is a great opportunity to get out there and raise some money for two very worthy causes – Barnando’s and CHILDREN 1ST.
