Our enlisted RCUK readers riding this year’s Etape are a lucky couple; we’ve managed to get two Wilier bikes for them to ride. These aren’t just standard bikes though, oh no, they’re ex-team bikes. The team in question is Team Parolin, an Italian team. They even still have the rider’s names on the top tubes, and they’ve certainly seen plenty of miles. There’s the odd scuff, scratch and mark in various places, the saddles are certainly looking a bit tatty, but cosmetics aside they’re in perfect working order. Well you’d expect them to be mechanically fine when you’ve got a pro mechanic looking after them for you, I certainly wish I did…
The frames are light and beautifully welded Scandium tubes. A Mizunio Fiandre Monoscocca carbon fork holds the front end up, while a full Campag Record groupset does the shifting and braking duties, with very tasty carbon lever blades. Rotational duties are handled by Guara Vasus hoops (1950g the pair) – sealed bearing hubs, 28 aero spokes front and rear and a medium profile rim. Selcof and Ritchey complete the cockpit details.
So they sound good, but how do they ride – lookout for a report soon when we find out how our riders are getting on with them.
