LAS Victory Supreme helmet – review

We pulled on the LAS Victory Supreme helmet for the first time in May as part of our month of Giro-inspired content.

Now after several rides inside it, we can report our findings to those who might be in the market for a high end, Italian lid.

Firstly, the Victory Supreme was very light, an important consideration for most cycling paraphernalia and especially for an accessory worn on the head. It tickled the RCUK scales at 261 grams. It felt light an untroublesome, heavier than the KASK Mojito (a featherweight 220 grams) we tested in April certainly, but not unduly weighty.

The two side straps adjusted via a plastic regulator on each. They were simple enough to use, but not perhaps as straightforward as the hinged clips now popular on a range of competitor helmets.

The cradle adjusted easily thanks to a large control dial at the rear that proved easy to locate even when in the saddle and offered adjustment with a series of positive clicks in regular increments.

It’s ‘up and down’ movement was another excellent innovation, allowing the cradle to be pulled to the base of the skull.

Properly tightened, the helmet remained secure against the head, and didn’t tilt backwards as easily as others we have tried, a considerable bonus we’d imagine if you were to hit the ground face first.

We wore it extensively during the hot days of mid-May, and the ventialiation proved excellent.

A removable chin strap was comfortable if a little bulky, and the magnetic fastening clip proved secure and functional.

The fit was comfortable and we liked the one piece liner/bug net, which proved easy to remove for washing. We had a slight reservation about the plastic coated, gel pad positioned front centre, which left a notable indent in the forehead for some time after each ride.

We were impressed by the large range of accessories supplied with the Victory Supreme, which included spare liner pads, a drawstring bag, a what looked like a traditional hat box in which you might keep a wedding day topper.

Aggressive styling gained a thumbs up from RCUK colleagues and riding buddies. We especially liked the flat-backed rear of the helmet, and the subtle metal flake effect of the finish.

The LAS Victory Supreme helmet has a list price of £154.99. It is available in two sizes (53cm to 59cm and 57cm to 62cm) and three colours: red, white, and anthracite.
