NeilPryde have unveiled their new road machine at the Tapei Bike Show.
With a ‘target’ frame weight of just 750 grams for the large size, the Bura SL is billed as a “highly engineered, pure climbing, road bike”.
In a statement, the company said: “After conducting benchmark testing of various lightweight frames in the market, it was apparent that key performance indicators, such as bottom bracket and headtube stiffness, are frequently compromised in pursuit of minimal weight.
“Utilising our extensive knowledge of composites developed over two and half decades manufacturing high-performance equipment from carbon fibre, we set about looking for a better way to make a pure engineered solution, where compromise was not an option.
“The result is the BURAsl – a highly engineered, pure climbing, road bike.”
Marketing blurb aside, the BURAsl includes features standard on modern carbon frames such as a press fit bottom bracket and moulded carbon fibre headset cups.
The internal reinforcement ribs included on last year’s highly rated Diablo are a feature of NeilPryde’s new machine – continuous pieces of carbon fibre that on the BURAsl run through the junction of the seat tube and top tube, and of the top tube, head tube, and down tube.
Carbon fibre dropouts, moulded headset cups and cable stops are all used in the cause of weight saving.
Availability is scheduled for model year 2013, so expect to see it at the back end of this year. Price is to be confirmed.
