Cyclosportive event organiser Trail Break, the team responsible for the Southern Sportive and the Sunday Sportive series, has announced the arrival of a new event, to be held on 20th June, to be called the Great Western Sportive.
It will be based on the southern edge of Swindon, original home of the Great Western Railway’s workshops, and will head south from the start over the Ridgway into the Marlborough Downs to follow a challenging, rolling course based on the successful Wantage edition of the Sunday Sportive series.
Southern Sportive’s Martin Harrison is really enthusiastic about the new route; “There are a lot of good, open, rolling roads that are ideal for cycling and make for a great day on the bike. This new location allows us to approach the course from a different direction and expand it into areas we couldn’t reach from Wantage. “
Entries for the event will be limited to 2000 riders, who will sign on at a leisure pavilion at the Swindon headquarters of joint ride sponsor, the Nationwide building society. The event village will include catering facilites, event and demo stands and and off-road cycle trail suitable for all family members.
The full course of the Great Western Sportive will cover around 160km (100 miles). Entrants will enjoy transponder timing, three feed and support stations and hot drinks and snacks plus a free finisher’s T-shirt. Shorter 126km and 74km sportive routes plus leisure rides of 32km and 16km are on offer for those who prefer them.
