Containing beeswax and plant-based waxes kept liquid by a bio-ethanol sovent, Green-Oil’s White is a “dry” cycle chain lubricant with a difference; it is, in accordance with the company’s ethos, bio-degradable. The formula has been a year in development, with the adoption of bio-ethanol in place of a bio-degradable but petrochemical-based solvent the final piece of the puzzle.
The highly-volatile bio-ethanol solvent ensures rapid drying; Green-Oil quotes around one minute on a dry day and around seven in wet conditions. The result, according to the company, is ” not only dry, but super dry, leaving an extremely dry lubricating film behind on you chain, which lubricates without the wet feel.”
Dry to a fault, then. For sure, applied to a metal surface and allowed to – er – dry, White leaves a non-wet film that feels slippery enough to be a chain lubricant. It smells great during the process of evaporation and, unsurprisingly, not unlike high-priced furniture polish afterwards. How long it takes to degrade and under what conditions is unclear; not too fast, we’d hope, or it won’t stop the chain getting rusty…
