Inside the Peloton: My life as a professional cyclist by Nicolas Roche – £14.99
Mention Nicolas Roche and it’s almost impossible not to name check his father, Stephen, who won the Triple Crown – the Tour de France, Giro d’Italia and World Championships – in 1987.
The formidable reputation of his father has handed Nicolas an extra hurdle in carving out his own career, but the AG2R La Mondiale rider registered top 15 finishes in both the Tour and Vuelta in 2010.
Now the Irishman tells his tale in his recently released autobiography, Inside the Peloton: My life as a professional cyclist, published by Transworld Ireland with a price of £14.99.
Bicycle Travel Journal with illustrations by Nigel Peake – £12.95
The leather-bound Bicycle Travel Journal is a smart number for the discerning traveller.
“The journal encourages us to take up travelling by bike – in short or long rides, through urban, suburban or rural areas, along roads, coasts and mountain paths – and record those colourful journeys,” reads the blurb.
The journal features 20 bike-inspired illustrations by Nigel Peake alongside blank pages to write on and 16 envelopes to store mementoes of your journeys.
X-Socks
There’s a lot of technology that can be packed into a humble sock and these from X-Socks are no different.
The Street socks (£13.95) promise to make wet feet a thing of the past, thanks to the water repellent outer surface. The socks are also reinforced at the heel and toe, with plenty of padding and a ventilation channel to help regulate foot temperature.
The Silver socks (£15.50) feature a Sinofit footbed made of 99.9%-pure silver, which inhibits bacterial growth and offers protection against foot odour and athlete’s foot. Full reviews to follow.
RSP lights
Following our review of the Asteri 3 front light, RSP have sent us a selection of commuting lights to test now the nights are drawing in.
The Urban 8 LED rear light (£24.99) is designed for commuting, with four of the LEDs rear-facing, two on the left and two on the right to ensure you’re seen from all angles. Meanwhile, the Nebula front light (£29.99) offers 180 degree visibility from five LEDs and the Steradian front light (£29.99) puts out 1,200 candlepower from a single one watt LED. Like the Nebula, side-on illumination is taken care of thanks to a window on either side of the LED. Full reviews to follow.
Nutrition
We were at the Cycle Show a couple of weeks back and brought you the latest developments in nutrition. We grabbed a handful of samples from most brands so will report back with what tastes good, and what’s not so good.
