Bradley Wiggins expects to ride the Vuelta a Espana next month following successful surgery on his broken collarbone.
The Team Sky leader crashed out of the Tour de France on stage seven and went under the knife on Monday to have a metal plate inserted to support the bone.
The Vuelta starts in Benidorm on August 20 and Wiggins will use his first Spanish Grand Tour to fine-tune his World Time Trial Championship preparations.
But the 31-year-old will now miss the Tour of Britain and will not defend his national time trial title, which he has won for the past two years.
Wiggins wrote on Twitter: “For everyone asking, Op went well, feeling more human this evening and am already planning for end of the season.
“All focus on WorldsTT now as the big one for the end of the season with most likely prep being the Vuelta, which will be a first for me.
“Only downside being will miss Nat TT and TOB! But something has to give as hadn’t planned on crashing out of TDF.”
