Fredrik Johansson signs for PCA

Twenty year old Fredrik Johansson has taken a bold step by moving from
the Swedish team Malarenergi to the current ranked number one UK team
Plowman Craven.

The deal will allow the youngster to transfer his exceptional time trial
skills to the pursuit, with a view to competing for his country on the
track at the next Olympics.

Johansson who will be staying with Liquigas professional Magnus
Backstedt told us “I am really pleased to have been given this
opportunity to come to the UK and race with Plowman Craven. Malcolm
Elliott and Tony Gibb have so much experience on the road and track and
would like to thank Magnus and Sprocket Promotions for arranging this
for me. Living with Magnus will give me a real insight into how a top
professional rider works”

The six time national champion has targeted the Swedish time trial
championships as one of his main goals of the season. He is also looking
to gain enough track experience to allow him to ride the first two track
world cup events in Moscow and Manchester “I got on the track at Newport
last week for the first time and can honestly say it was one of the best
experiences I have had on a bike. I have looked at the way many of the
British and Australian riders have made a name for themselves on the
track before moving on to the road. Maybe I can do a similar thing.”

The young Swede from Kopparberg was presented by his new squad at
Cycling.tv’s offices in London on Tuesday and will get his first
experience of British racing in the Chas Messenger 3 Day stage race this
weekend. (He finished 4th)
