Halfords Tour Series round 1

Rapha-Condor-Sharp took the team win
An attention-seeker

An exciting first round of the Halfords Tour Series at Canary Wharf saw CyclePremier.com-Metaltek’s Tony Gibb take the final sprint for the individual win while local team Rapha-Condor-Sharp’s Dean Downing was the first to don the orange jersey of Halfords Tour leader.

Set in the heart of London’s Docklands financial district, the race saw plenty of early attacks before the peloton pulled them back. But the last five laps saw frenzied action as the leading teams cranked up the pace.

The final sprint saw Tony Gibb take the win ahead of Malcolm Elliott of Motorpoint-Marshalls Pasta. Dean Downing of Rapha-Condor-Sharp was third across the line but pulled on the orange Halford’s Tour leader jersey because his team won the team competition. Liam Holohan of Team Raleigh won the first Boardman Bikes sprint competition.

Highlights of the Halford’s Tour Series at Canary Wharf will be shown on ITV4 tonight (Wednesday 25th). The next round of the Halford’s Tour series is in Durham on Thursday 27th May.
