Portsmouth played host to round three of the Halfords Tour Series and it was all change at the top of the team standings with Motorpoint-Marshalls Pasta taking over the orange leader’s jersey from Rapha-Condor-Sharp, who slipped down to fourth in the standings.
Motorpoint’s Ian Bibby won despite team mate Malcolm Elliott, winner of the previous round in Durham, crashing on the first Boardman Bikes sprint competition and retiring with injuries to his hand and shoulder.
Until that point the peloton had been all together with any attempted attacks failing because of the high speed. After the crash a split formed but Rapha-Condor-Sharp were in contention to retain their leaders’ jerseys before an attack by Kristian House failed and Dean Downing punctured with two laps remaining.
Bibby took the sprint ahead of Pendragon-Le Col-Colnago’s Yanto Barker, Bibby’s team mate Andy Tennant placing fourth to take Motorpoint-Marshalls Pasta to the top of the team standings. Kristian House retained his Boardman Bikes sprint competition jersey from Liam Holohan by a single point.
Round four is on June 3rd in Exeter; highlights of the Portsmouth event will be shown on ITV4 at 19.00 on June 2nd.
