More prizes added to RoadCyclingUK Fantasy Giro d’Italia

The maglia rosa isn’t the only prize on offer over the next three weeks – play RoadCyclingUK Fantasy Giro d’Italia and you could win great gear from Team Carbon, Muc-Off, Solo, Limar, Birzman and more.

We’ve added even more prizes to the stash give you more chances of winning over the course of the race.

RoadCyclingUK Fantasy Giro d’Italia gives you the chance to select a nine-man dream team using your €20m budget. Will Mark Cavendish get your squad off to a winning start on stage one? Is Bradley Wiggins the man to lead your charge in the general classification?

Head to rcukgiro.fantasyleague.com to pick your team.

Points are awarded to the top 20 riders in each stage with bonus points on offer for being part of a stage-winning squad and for claiming or retaining the lead in an overall classification. Read the rules here and devise a winning strategy.

Overall prizes

First prize – win a Team Carbon bike worth £1,500!

Guide your team to the top spot on the RoadCyclingUK Fantasy Giro d’Italia podium and you’ll win a Team Carbon CT1 bike worth £1,500.

The CT1 frame and fork are made from high-grade T800 carbon fibre, with a frame weight of 1,040g, and the bike, which will be equipped with a Shimano 105 groupset and Team Carbon deep sections wheels, will be custom painted to the winner’s design.

Second prize – win a Team Carbon wheelset worth £600 (two winners)!

The directeur sportif of the teams in second and third will each win pair of full carbon Team Carbon deep section wheels worth £600.

Weekly prizes (three winners)

Win a Muc-Off Bike Care Essentials Kit and Birzman Feexman Alloy 10 Function Mini-Tool – together worth more than £50!

The top performing directeur sportif at the end of each week will win a Muc-Off Bike Care Essentials Kit, which includes bike cleaner, protect and lube spray, a wheel and component brush, an expanding sponge and a storage tote, plus a Birzman Feexman Alloy 10 Function Mini-Tool – together worth more than £50!

Stage prizes (five winners)

We’ve picked five of the most important stages of the Giro d’Italia, where the race for overall victory will be won and lost, and given them even more significance with these prizes for the top performing fantasy team on each particular stage.

Remember, category one stages are worth twice as many RoadCyclingUK Fantasy Giro d’Italia points as category two stages.

Stages eight and 15 – win a Muc-Off Bike Care Essentials Kit worth £25!

Stage eight brings the first stanza of the race to a close with a 54.8km individual time trial. Bradley Wiggins, who won both time trials en-route to Tour de France victory, is the man to beat and victory may well put the Brit in the maglia rosa.

Stage 15 sees the Giro pay homage to one of the great climbs of the Tour de France – the Col du Galibier. The 149km stage starts in Cesana Torinese before hopping across the border into France via the Col du Mont Cenis. The Col du Télégraphe follows before the final climb of the Col du Galibier.

The directeur sportifs of the top performing teams on stages eight and 18 will both win a Muc-Off Bike Care Essentials Kit.

Stage 18 – win a copy of Coppi: Inside the Legend of the Campionissimo by Herbie Sykes worth £27

If your team tops the standings on stage 18 then you’ll walk away with a copy of Coppi: Inside the Legend of the Campionissimo by Herbie Sykes. The 320-book is built around a selection of hand-picked, never before seen images, accompanied by testimony from those who knew one of the most iconic riders in the sport’s history.

Stage 18, meanwhile, is a cronoscalata (uphill time trial) which rises for 19km in the hills east of Lake Garda. With an average gradient of five per cent, it’s a test which looks suited to specialists like Wiggins. Can the Team Sky leader take time on his rivals before two brutal days in the Dolomites?

Stage 19 – win a Solo Moretti jersey worth £70!

Stage 19 sees the first of two successive summit finishes in the Dolomites. The 139km crosses the iconic climbs of the Passo Gavia and Passo dello Stelvio before the final 22km ascent to Val Martello.

Guide your team to victory on stage 19 and you will win a Solo Moretti short sleeve jersey. The tricolore jersey pays tribute to Italy’s rich cycling heritage and has knitted polycotton/lycra arm and neck bands for a distinctly retro look.

Stage 20 – win a limited edition Limar 777 Giro d’Italia helmet worth £69.99!

Your team will need every last ounce of energy for stage 20. The 203km route opens with the Passo Costalunga Karerpass and Passo di San Pellegrino before going over the infamous Passo Giau, which rises to 2,236m. But all that is just an aperitif ahead of the final climb of the Tre Cime de Lavaredo: a brutal ascent which averages 8.6 per cent – and with sections in excess of 18 per cent.

With only the final stage, which is expected to end in a bunch sprint, to follow, the 2013 Giro d’Italia champion will effectively be crowned at the summit of the final climb. If your team wins on the day you’ll win a limited edition Limar 777 Giro d’Italia helmet.
