The lap of honour

Day one saw the Men’s Open Kilo competition in which reining Champion Chris Hoy rode an impressive time, as always, to secure himself a prime spot on the podium. We caught up with the great Scot after the event so keep an eye on the site for a full interview to follow. Chris continued to storm through the sprint heats preceding the final this weekend, setting a new personal best in the qualifying round. More reports and pictures to follow…

Coming in Silver and Bronze position were SIS riders Rob Hayles and Jason Kenny. Hayles joked that the four laps were about all he could manage with his current fitness – In that case Rob, you’re not doing too bad!

Open Pursuit Finals

Pursuit
Manning, Millar and Newton

Elsewhere in day two’s 4000m Pursuit David Millar easily qualified for the ride off for Gold against defending Champion Paul Manning. Both put in an awesome ride but it was Millar who took the Gold with 4.22.322. Considering David rode the event ‘just for fun’ and has only been near a track a few times this year he should be pretty pleased with that result.
