TESTED: Vangard Skull Cap, Headband and Socks

A trio of Vangard goodies tested…

Skull cap

When I discovered the Vangard winter range it was a bit like the time I found that wearing overshoes would mean that I could ride for more than a couple of hours without loosing the feeling in my toes.

As well as a great range of fast wicking base and mid-layers, Vangard produce a number of essential winter accessories including skull caps, headbands and socks.

The Vangard Elite MTS Skull Cap is designed with fleece ear warmers and flat seams. It has not only kept my ears toasty throughout one of the coldest spells I’ve ever ridden through, but uses an effective moisture transport system which removes sweat away from the head as you ride. The MTS is tight fitting and offers great freedom of movement.

The Elite Moist Transport System was created by Vangard on the basis of 25 years of experience in the production of high yielding technical underwear.

Price: £9.99.

Head band

The other accessory which has made many commutes in the snow a lot more bearable has been the Vangard Elite MTS Headband, which again has kept my ears from freezing. With the headband and skullcap, one size fits all. Both also offer high breathability. The skullcap may be more suitable for longer and harder efforts on the bike as it offers higher sweat transporting properties than the headband, which prioritises thermal benefits in its design.

Price: £8.99.

Sock

The third in this trio of cycling essentials are the bike cut CoolMax Vangard pro socks which help to keep feet fresh after hours in the saddle. Elite CoolMax consists of CoolMax from Dupont SA which is incredibly breatheable and again this design makes use of fantastic sweat transport propeties. These light and soft socks have worn well and still come out of the wash looking as good as new. The socks are available in black and white and come in a range of sizes: 1=37-39 – 2=40-42 3=43-45 – 4=46-48.

Price: £6.99.

Vangard have a great range of summer clothing and accessories, well worth checking out for the coming season. Although if the weather doesn’t brighten up soon you may benefit from ear-warmers for some time to come.
