Stage 3 – September 1: Leeds – Sheffield, 160km
Just got back from the Peaks, where there was some exciting racing to be seen on the slopes of Snake Pass. A small group grew as once again the main field was content to let a few lower GC riders have a go. Great Britain RR Champion Russ Downing made it into the move and looked pretty confident on the climb. But it was Luca Paolini from Quick Step who managed to out fox the breakaway.
More time was lost by some of the favourites for the overall and Nick Nuyens looks pretty safe going into tomorrow’s stage around the East Midlands.
