dhb Elsted Bike Bag

dhb Elsted Bike Bag £59.99

As good as the UK weather can be, sometimes you just can’t beat packing your bags, bike and suncream and heading to some warmer climes. And while you can get away with packing your bike in a large cardboard box for the plane trip, we reckon you’d do better to invest in a proper bike bag.

dhb’s Elsted bike bag is just that. The soft bag is made from tough and hard wearing 600D PVC coated polyester with 10mm of ‘no-crush’ padding between the outside and the wipe clean internal lining. The base is stiff and reinforced and double handles and an adjustable shoulder strap make carrying (there are no wheels) easier.

Inside there’s more than enough space to swallow an average sized road bike. Zipped wheel compartments on either sides take the wheels, with the tyres deflated, and hard plastic sections cover the hub/axle part of the wheels from damaging the frame. You’ll have to take some bits off your bike, such as the pedals, and handily there’s a deep zipped pocket that has enough space for pedals, tools and other bits and bobs.

Empty, the bag weighs 6.5kg and measures 135cm x 90cm x 23cm.

Verdict

For an inexpensive solution to taking your bike on a plane the dhb bike bag is a great investment. For frequent flyers however, we’d probably veer towards a more expensive hard case for the extra peace of mind.

good Tough, compartments for wheels and tools, light, rugged

bad Not as tough as a more expensive hard case
