Dragon Ride to put young cyclists on TV

The Dragon Ride Wales and Avanti Television are looking for the cycling stars of the future in an exciting new project in association with this year’s event, which is the 5th anniversary of Britain’s largest cyclosportive.

Youth sports magazine programme ‘Stamina’, to be aired on S4C, the Welsh language arm of terrestrial television Channel 4, is searching for young, Welsh-speaking riders between the ages of 14 and 21 who are planning to ride the 2008 event. Avanti Television will be on hand to record the training and preparation of the chosen rider up to and including the event itself together with a riding ‘Masterclass’ from 2004 Paris-Roubaix winner and South Wales resident Magnus Backstedt.

“This is a great opportunity for young talent to shine over what is a very hard event,” said event organiser Lou Lusardi. ”The Dragon Ride Wales is one of the toughest single day challenges in the UK and it’s fantastic that someone will get the opportunity to learn from a rider as successful as Magnus.”

‘Stamina’ will begin its 2008 run on May 12th and will continue throughout the summer on S4C. The series, which celebrates and encourages youth sport in Wales, has featured stars such as Olympic swimmer David Davis and professional golfer Becky Brewerton in the recent past.

Riders interested in featuring in ‘Stamina’ should be between the ages of 14-21, Welsh speakers and committed to riding The Dragon Ride Wales in 2008. To register your interest contact David Harmon on 0044 7961 765 068 before May 16th 2008.
