GPM10 is a cycle tours and training company based near Chamonix, high up in the gorgeous French Alps. It is owned by cyclist Mark Neep, who with help from elite
mountain-bike and road rider Sam Gardner and time-trialist and roadman Steve
Walkling, offer a different type of cycling break. The focus is on weekend breaks rather than complete weeks, so you can fly out to Geneva on Friday and be in some proper Mountains on Saturday morning.
In 2004 the company ran several trips in the Alps including the infamous Tour de Mont Blanc, taking in the 3 countries of Switzerland, Italy and France in 3 days, over some of the most famous Giro and Tour climbs. They also ran an easier weekend, (only 65 miles a day!) over to the sublime Lake Aneccy, one of which watched Lance and co at the Dauphine Librere race. In 2005 they are branching out and running an early season camp near Nimes in the south of France and there are still some spaces left.
A beautiful luxury farmhouse has been booked from Sat 26th Feb to Sun 6th March, with the option of doing either long weekends Sat 26th Feb to Tuesday 1st March (4 days riding, 2 days off work) or Thursday 3rd March to Sunday 6th March (again 4 days riding for only 2 days off work). Alternatively clients can attend for the whole week. The weather should be a lot better than the UK, but arm warmers and leg warmers may be needed in the mornings. There is scope for lots of flat and rolling rides on quiet roads but not huge alpine climbs, but then how long do you climb for in UK races? GPM10 provides a
mechanic, massage and a proper support car for every ride. Get the whole pro
experience!
