Pendle Pedal 08

Two events, Pendle Pedal and the Pendle Cycle Show, take place on Sunday, 3rd August 2008.

Firstly, keen cyclists from across the country will descend on the area to take part in Pendle Pedal – one of the country’s toughest sportives.

The cyclists will choose either a 60-mile or a 100-mile ride through the beautiful and hilly Pendle, Ribble Valley, Lune Valley and Forest of Bowland countryside.

Cyclists will ride over some of the quietest roads in the country, through stunning countryside and over climbs steeped in cycling folklore, such as the Trough of Bowland and the Nick O’Pendle.

Participants can still enter Pendle Pedal on-line at www.pennineevents.co.uk.

The public is able to view the rides at various points along the route. The 100-mile ride starts between 8am and 8.50am and the 60-mile ride starts between 9am and 9.40am. Both rides start from the Rolls Royce Sports Ground on Skipton Road, Barnoldswick. Riders are expected at the finish line – back at the sports ground – from 12 noon onwards.

Full details of where to watch the ride are available at www.pennineevents.co.uk.

The public can also enjoy ‘all things cycling’ at the Pendle Cycle Show which takes place at the sports ground from 11am to 4pm on the same day. A music concert is taking place in the Social Club within the sports ground from 2pm as well.

Pendle Cycle Show will have cycling displays, events, opportunities for visitors to ride different and unusual bikes, and be entertained by a range of cycling-based activities.

Mark Sandamas, Director of Pennine Events Limited, said: “At Pendle Pedal, the public can watch cyclists of all abilities test themselves in one of the toughest sportives in the country. At Pendle Cycle Show, they can enjoy all things cycling. We just hope for good weather so people can really enjoy all that’s on offer.”

Pendle Pedal and Pendle Cycle Show are part of Pendle Bike Fest 2008 – a spectacular series of cycling events taking place this summer in Pennine Lancashire and organised by Pennine Events. The event is organised on behalf of Pendle Borough Council.

Details about all the events during Pendle Bike Fest 2008, including locations and dates, are available at www.pendlebikefest.com or telephone 01695 682020.
