Sir Chris Hoy announces HOY bike brand partnership with Evans Cycles

Sir Chris Hoy has announced a partnership with Evans Cycles to produce the bike brand, HOY.

The six-time Olympic champion, who won gold medals in the men’s team sprint and the keirin at the London Games this summer, said he will commit fully to the project after he retires.

He ruled out retirement before the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, where, if selected, he will race in a velodrome bearing his name.

The announcement was made at a press conference in Bermondsey, south east London, in the former Peek Freans biscuit factory where Evans now has a repair depot.

Hoy was one of 12 athletes named last night by the BBC as shortlisted nominees for the Sports Personality of the Year Award. Speaking to RoadCyclingUK before the conference, Hoy said he had received a phone call the same evening confirming his nomination.

The first HOY bikes are expected in Evans Cycles shops next spring. Three road bikes and four city models are in development. Hoy said a special edition track bike may be considered.
