RCUK Bikes Simon Winter's Carlton retro fixed

A neat wee retro-fixed roadie built up from an old wreck rescued from a skip. The owner-builder Simon Winter (a graphic design student) retained and refurbished the frame, forks, brakes (Weinmann centre-pull with ‘panic levers’) and cranks then added new wheels (Condor-built) and a Brooks leather saddle and threaded some SPDs onto the crank arms. The modern rear hub is one of those flip-flop types with two options on rear sprocket size, one with freewheel and one with fixed sprocket. Simon says he was inspired to make the bike as part of his studies into sustainability. He’s since been asked to make another. He says the bike has really surprised him with how well it rides, he loves it, although it suffers that old 1970s malady of wearing out cotter pins (they all do that, sir).
