Alex Dowsett has signed a three-year contract extension with Movistar that will keep the Commonwealth Games champion with the Spanish team until the end of 2017.
Dowsett joined Movistar from Team Sky at the start of 2013 and won a stage of the Giro d’Italia and a third British national time trial title in his first season with the squad.
The 25-year-old has also enjoyed a strong 2014 season, winning a stage of the Circuit de la Sarthe, which he led for a day, and the Commonwealth Games time trial, where he beat Geraint Thomas (Team Sky) and Rohan Dennis (BMC Racing) to gold.
The Essex-born rider was also a key protagonist in the Tour of Britain and spent a day in the leader’s jersey after an all-day breakaway on stage six.
Dowsett then helped Movistar to sixth in the men’s team time trial at the World Championships in Ponferrada, Spain, on Sunday, and will now swap his trade team colours for the Great Britain skinsuit in Wednesday’s elite men’s time trial.
3more years with @Movistar_Team, will be fluent in Spanish by 2017! #happyaslarry
